Feasting, Frolicking, and Freezing on This Year’s Dark Mofo Agenda

Tasmania’s renowned winter festival Dark Mofo is back for 2024, bringing a program of icy delights designed to chase away the chills. Festival organisers promise “feasting and frolicking” with a focus on Tasmanian produce, music, and art experiences.

Winter Feast Makes a Mouthwatering Return

The star attraction is the Winter Feast, a two-week culinary extravaganza featuring renowned guest chef Vaughan Mabee alongside Mona’s executive chef Vince Trim. Expect a menu that pushes boundaries, featuring Tasmanian game meats, wild edibles, and Mabee’s signature deer milk ice cream creation.

This year’s Winter Feast boasts 80 stallholders, 25 of them new, offering everything from spit roast pork buns to neo-Nepalese curries and classic Tasmanian fare like Bruny Island Oysters. Free entry on both Sundays and Season Passes valid for the entire event making it easy to explore the diverse culinary offerings.

Nude Solstice Swim Gets Bigger and Bolder

For those seeking a more invigorating experience, the Nude Solstice Swim returns with an increased capacity. Take a refreshing plunge into the waters at Long Beach on the winter solstice and celebrate the return of the sun.

Dark Mofo brings back the multi-storey dance party Night Shift, joined by newcomer Slow Burn, a late-night event kicking off at midnight.

Winter Delights at MONA

The Museum of Old and New Art (MONA) joins the festivities with the Mona Gala, a chance to see and be seen at the opening of their new exhibition “Namedropping.” This exhibition explores the concept of status and the human desire for recognition. Tickets go on sale April 16th.

Music, Art, and More Throughout the Festival

Winter In The Garden at the Hanging Garden precinct offers a daily program of DJs, food and drink pop-ups, and more, while Dark Mofo staples like Genesis Owusu and Marlon Williams grace the stage at the Odeon Theatre.
