Tasmania’s premier luxury lodge, Saffire Freycinet, has joined forces with luxury expedition cruise operator On Board to offer an exclusive and unforgettable experience – the Coast-to-Coast Luxury expeditions. This extraordinary journey combines a small ship adventure through the remote southwest corner of Tasmania’s Wilderness World-Heritage Area with a lavish stay at Saffire Freycinet on the east coast’s spectacular Freycinet Peninsula.
Guests embarking on this once-in-a-lifetime adventure will enjoy exclusive round-trip transfers by seaplane, linking a three-night luxury expedition cruise in the southwest with a three-night stay at Saffire in the east, all departing from a Hobart base. This unique travel opportunity provides seamless connections and a breathtaking aerial perspective of Tasmania, with its rugged wilderness and sparkling coasts.
The Coast-to-Coast Luxury package accommodates only 12 guests in six luxury suites onboard the expedition vessel and at the Saffire lodge. It is available on three set departure dates from Hobart, providing travellers with a deep dive into Tasmania’s stunning wilderness:
- December 12 – 18, 2023
- March 29 – April 4, 2024
- May 4 – 10, 2024
Ideal for travellers seeking an intimate group experience, corporate retreats, or special occasions with family and friends, the Coast-to-Coast itinerary offers an all-inclusive luxury base complete with world-class Tasmanian culinary fare and personally guided experiences.
The adventure begins with an exploration of the untouched waterways of Port Davey, a precious harbour on the edge of the world, protected by a marine reserve, national park, and the UNESCO Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area. Guests will be immersed in the wilds, few will ever reach, with daily walks led by expert local guides and tender excursions to ancient rivers and remote bays teeming with bird and marine life. This experience taps into the growing interest in Tasmania’s wild west, recently made famous by TV series such as “Alone Australia,” “The Bridge,” and “Bay of Fires.”
After a scenic seaplane flight across the state, guests will arrive at Freycinet National Park in the east, where they can relax and enjoy pure luxury at Saffire Freycinet. Daily tasting menus will showcase abundant local produce, including seafood from the bay and resident honey, as well as premium Tasmanian wines. All-inclusive experiences include the Saffire bee-keeping experience, tasting oysters straight from the bay, or discovering the First Nations heritage on a guided “Connection to Country” walk.
Patrick Barrie, General Manager of Saffire Freycinet, expressed his excitement about the partnership with On Board, calling it a rare chance for guests to celebrate Tasmania’s breathtaking and diverse natural beauty in one seamless venture.
“We’re so pleased to partner with our contemporaries at On Board and really deliver an exceptional experience of Tasmania’s wild reaches for our guests,” Mr. Barrie said. “Each coast of Tasmania is unique, and none more so than the east and west. We are thrilled to extend the Saffire experience to an area of Tasmania rarely ventured and spectacularly beautiful.”
Pieter van der Woude, the founder of On Board, stated that their family-owned-and-operated business was thrilled to reveal Tasmania’s wild southwest coast to guests.
“For guests looking for a once-in-a-lifetime Tasmanian adventure, this guided luxury gives guests the opportunity to experience the very best of Tasmania in one week. Our new boutique catamaran, Odalisque III, serves as a luxe launching pad to explore the UNESCO World Heritage Wilderness Area of Port Davey, while the Saffire Freycinet lodge seamlessly connects guests with the dramatic Hazards and coastal environment,” Mr. van der Woude said.
Rates for the all-inclusive six-night Coast-to-Coast Luxury package start from AU$27,000* and include all dining and on-package drinks, three seaplane transfers, and guided experiences with On Board and Saffire Freycinet.
