It’s that time of the year once again when the experts at the Baking Association of Australia pull together entries from all around Australia for Australia’s Best Pie and Pastie Competition. With bakeries all over the country taking part, it’s worth taking a moment to outline how it all works.

  • Judges are put to the test to establish during three days of competition, who has Australia’s Best Pie and Australia’s Best Pastie.
  • Australia’s Best Pie & Pastie competition is run by the National Body for the industry – the Baking Association of Australia
  • The team of experienced and well-respected judges take the time to judge every entry they receive
  • All entries are judged as a cold entry, and then judged again and tasted as a hot entry – with scores combining to help find Australia’s Best Pie & Pastie.

Over three gruelling days, judges ate pie after pie, and pastie after pastie to determine the best pie and pastie in Australia.

Categories are judged daily, with pies given a gold medal in their category then going on to be in the running to be named as Australia’s Best Pie 2023.

Each day of the Australia’s Best Pie & Pastie competition sees the judges get straight into the action with Plain Beef Mince Pie, Plain Chunky Beef Pie, Flavoured Beef Pie, Vegetarian Pie, Seafood Pie, and many more. Find out the silver and gold medal winning pies for each category below. And read all of the Australia’s Best Meat Pie & Pastie Competition results on the Baking Association of Australia website.
