Experiential Grocer, Gateway, Opens in Coldstream

Coldstream is the gateway to the Yarra Valley if you’re heading in from Melbourne, so it makes a whole heap of sense to name a business located in Coldstream exactly that. Gateway—667 Maroondah Highway—is an immersive shopping and dining experience that will open its doors on Saturday 10 December.
Immersive how? You say. Well, this grocery store is like no other. At Gateway, you can pick greens, herbs, fruit, and flowers directly from the vine, and throw them straight in your trolley—all from Gateway’s temperature-controlled greenhouse. All produce is grown on-site, or sourced from nearby Yarra Valley suppliers.

“The experience of Gateway is engaging and hands-on. Unlike traditional supermarkets, customers are picking their ingredients from the soil themselves, rather than a shelf,” said Gateway CEO, Joe Basile.
“We select our suppliers to ensure they meet company values and the highest sustainability standards.”
Built with community at the core, Gateway is unique to its Yarra Valley surroundings. The carefully selected produce and bespoke dining experiences are designed around the local area, accompanied by a thoughtfully curated seasonal menu.
“We believe that fresh food is at the heart of a community. I welcome the public to come down and explore what Gateway has to offer,” Basile said.
“We built Gateway with the intention to promote healthy outcomes amongst the community, and we have designed this space to be accessible for anyone, whether they want to pick, shop, or dine. There’s so much more to shopping than what you can get at a traditional supermarket. At Gateway, you can reconnect with your food and buy fresh, healthy, local produce.”
In the future, the Gateway team plan to host home cooking, baking, and DIY classes in-house.
