Sunflowers are at the optimum level of beauty come the end of summer/start of autumn. Sunflowers adorn many gardens around Melbourne, but if you’re looking at picking some, you might want to stick to somewhere that doesn’t frown upon their sunflowers being lopped in half. Greendale Sunflower Farm is about an hour drive from Melbourne and also happened to be right near one of Victoria’s most beautiful country pubs, the timber Greendale Pub.
Greendale Sunflower Farm is the perfect place to pick your own sunflowers near Melbourne, with fields choc-full of golden sunflowers. Picking season in Greendale runs from 24th February until late March/early April, with the farm open Thursday to Sunday and on public holidays.
To get the most of your experience, you should wear closed-toe shoes, bring some secateurs (you can hire some for $2 a pair) and keep your eye out for the bees. Dogs are welcome on the farm as long as they’re on the lead the whole time and you pick up after them.
