A New Murray River Cruise Aboard the Historic PS Emmylou Will Launch Next Year

Travelmarvel has launched a new river cruising tour along the iconic Murray River. The Reflections of the Murray River tour, now open for bookings, offers an exclusive four-night journey aboard the PS Emmylou, a charming wood-fired paddle steamer, departing in August 2025.

In collaboration with Murray River Paddlesteamers, this small group tour promises travellers an immersive experience of the Murray’s serene waters and the stunning eucalyptus-lined landscapes that define the region. Prices for the cruise start at AUD$2,995/NZD$3,495 per person, twin share, with early bird savings of up to $600 per couple.

The PS Emmylou, designed to mirror the grandeur of 19th-century paddle steamers, is powered by a fully restored 1906 wood-fired steam engine. With its oiled timber deck and authentic wheelhouse, the vessel evokes a sense of nostalgia while offering modern comforts like ensuite cabins, flatscreen TVs, climate control, and complimentary Wi-Fi. The steamer’s intimate capacity of just 16 guests, spread across eight deluxe cabins, ensures a personalised and boutique cruising experience.

Dining on board is another highlight, with an onboard chef preparing gourmet meals served in the saloon’s indoor and outdoor seating areas. Guests will also enjoy riverside BBQs at Layfield Lane, accompanied by live entertainment and a campfire under the stars.

Beyond the cruise, travellers can extend their adventure with an optional eight-day tour, visiting Swan Hill, the stunning Mungo National Park, and South Australia’s Barossa Valley. The extended tour is priced from AUD$5,695/NZD$6,495 per person, twin share, also with a savings offer of up to $600 per couple. Highlights include Travelmarvel’s Insider Experiences, such as the Mungo Lodge Sunset Tour, where travellers can spot native wildlife during golden hour.

Cher Lontok, Head of Product for Australia at Travelmarvel, expressed excitement about the new tour, saying, “We are thrilled to partner with Murray River Paddlesteamers to bring this unique travel experience to life. The PS Emmylou offers an incredible way to explore one of Australia’s most scenic regions.”

Craig Burgess, Director of Murray River Paddlesteamers, echoed these sentiments, noting that the partnership meets a growing demand for premium overnight river cruises. “We’re delighted to work with Travelmarvel and showcase the beauty of the Murray River to a wider audience.”

The new tour is part of Travelmarvel’s 2025 Australia program, which offers a range of travel experiences across the country.
