While Canberra’s National Art Gallery, Tasmania’s Museum of New Art and the Art Gallery of NSW often make headlines for attracting national and international talent, you don’t have to head to a major city to find artistic gems.
In NSW alone, there are at least 40 galleries across the regions showcasing top-notch local, national and international art.
From a startup gallery in the picturesque Snowy Mountains to a gallery housed in a 1911 Federation-era bank, here are five galleries you’ll want to add to your bucket list.

Jindabyne Art Gallery
Jindabyne
Next time you venture to the Snowy Mountains, swing past the Jindabyne Art Gallery in the centre of town for a taste of local artistry.
The gallery was started by a team of volunteer artists in the wake of the 2019/20 bushfires and COVID-19 pandemic, which decimated the local tourism industry,
Open Friday through Monday from 10am til 2pm, visitors can enjoy a selection of art from Snowy locals, including photography, sculptures and paintings, with free entry.
And if you fall in love with a particular piece, you could take it home, with the exhibited pieces also available to purchase.
After you’ve had your fill of art, take a short stroll to the Banjo Paterson Inn or an equally quick drive to Jindabyne Brewing for a feed or a brew.
