Red Gum BBQ Sauces Win Big at 2024 Melbourne Royal Australian Food Awards

Red Gum BBQ has once again proven its culinary excellence at the 2024 Melbourne Royal Australian Food Awards, clinching prestigious accolades for three of its new sauces. Known for their dedication to authentic southern-style barbeque, Red Gum BBQ earned a silver medal for Grandma Mildred’s Gold Sauce, marking the second consecutive year it has received this honour. Additionally, Granddaddy Heyward’s Classic Sauce secured a bronze medal in the savoury sauce category, while Aunt Vic’s Hot Sauce also achieved bronze in the fiercely competitive chilli sauces category for the second year running.

These awards underscore the exceptional quality of Red Gum BBQ’s At Home range, which allows home cooks to recreate restaurant-quality, low and slow flavours. Each sauce is crafted with sustainability in mind, packaged beautifully, and rooted in family recipes that come with heartfelt stories.

Melissa Goffin, co-owner of Red Gum BBQ, expressed her excitement over the recent achievements, stating, “After being enjoyed by customers and restaurant diners since 2013, we’re loving the public response to our sauces since our launch last year. This is the second year in a row our family-owned business has entered our house-made BBQ sauces in the prestigious competition, and we’re thrilled with the results. Seeing Granddaddy Heyward’s Classic Sauce join the award-winning team is so exciting. It’s that continued validation that our products sit amongst the highest calibre of Australian foods and deserve a place on every table.”

Expanding the BBQ Experience

Red Gum BBQ, founded by Martin and Melissa Goffin, began as a passion project to bring authentic American BBQ to Australia. The Goffins travelled the US to gather traditional recipes, which they now share through their handcrafted, small-batch sauces and meat rubs made in the heart of the Mornington Peninsula.

With their retail brand, Red Gum BBQ At Home, they continue to expand nationally, offering products that align with their commitment to sustainability and ethical sourcing. Their sauces and rubs are available in-store at their Red Hill and Seaford locations, online, and at boutique grocery stores and butchers across the country.

Red Gum BBQ’s dedication to preserving the art of low and slow BBQ, combined with their B-Corp certification and use of high-welfare, free-range meats, ensures that their products are both high-quality and ethically produced.
