One of the great drawcards of Victoria’s iconic tourist attraction, Puffing Billy, was that you were able to hang your legs out of the train carriage as the vintage locomotives trundled along the line between Belgrave and Gembrook. Now, after safety issues put a stop to the time-honoured tradition, it’s back.
From Saturday 5 February, you’ll once again be able to hand your legs out the side of Puffing Billy’s train carriages.
“It’s been a labour of love for our team, partners, and supporters, and we are absolutely delighted to be able to offer the iconic sitting on the sills experience to adults and children aged from four to thirteen once again,” said Peter Abbott, CEO of Puffing Billy Railway.
“Nothing beats the ride through the towering forests, around bends, over bridges and streams, waving at passers-by, all the while sitting on the carriage sill as Puffing Billy steams gently along the tracks,”
If you want to sit on the sills, you’ll need to catch a Belgrave to Lakeside service. Children need to be under adult supervision.
