G’day to the wonderful readers of The Local Rag.
The past twelve months has been a huge one for this publication. We have been able to tell more stories than ever before, all written by a growing array of great journalists all wanting to tell stories about regional Australia.
We were able to do this thanks to the incredible Walkley Foundation, and the Meta Australian News Fund.
While the past year has been great for being able to continue supporting regional businesses, we’ve also found it difficult to continue competing in an ever-changing media landscape that absolutely favours the haves over the have-nots.
Following the funding period I have decided to reasses how The Local Rag moves forward, and while I have some ideas, it’s best at this time that I take a bit of time off from working on the publication.
This isn’t goodbye. I am determined to be back with a version of TLR that works within the landscape, and that can continue to support people in regional areas around Australia.
In the meantime I would encourage you to support other regional publications such as Pandaemonium, Bush Journal, and Galah.
If you would like to contact me, I can be reached at bt@thelocalrag.com.au.
Thanks, and see you soon.
