This winter, Gumbuya World is set to host a spectacular event that blends traditional First Nations storytelling with state-of-the-art technology. Gumbuya Dreaming, created by the acclaimed Indigenous artist Wayne Quilliam, promises to be a unique celebration of Indigenous culture in Victoria.
Running from June 8 to July 21, this inaugural event will take visitors on a journey through 60,000 years of dreaming. Quilliam, known for his groundbreaking work at the Indigenous Lume Melbourne Experience, brings his visionary art to Gumbuya Dreaming, transforming the park into a luminous wonderland.
Visitors can look forward to a variety of immersive experiences. The Lazy River will be converted into an illuminated billabong, and a specially designed soundscape will guide guests along the wildlife trail’s glowing park and radiant trees. Interactive installations will bring Indigenous stories and artwork to life, providing an educational and entertaining experience for the entire family.
Quilliam described the event as a mini-Parrtjima (Festival of Light), spread over 1.74 hectares of Gumbuya World. “Each one of these zones is connected through our traditional storytelling, a culmination of my knowledge and all the stories that have been told to me,” he said. “We’ve created this as a meeting place to share our stories with the world and tell the history of the land it’s sitting on.”
In addition to the dazzling light displays and soundscapes, visitors can also enjoy the park’s thrilling rides and a variety of delicious offerings from food trucks. The Dreaming Zones will captivate audiences with themes celebrating the beauty of flowers, the dance of fire and water, and the majesty of land and animals.
Gumbuya World, in which Gumbuya means “meeting place” in the local Indigenous language, is the perfect setting for this extraordinary fusion of culture and creativity. Don’t miss out on this one-of-a-kind event.
