In honor of World Rainforest Day on June 22, Brookie’s, a B-Corp certified distillery in Byron Bay, has launched a limited-edition gin crafted with unique rainforest botanicals. The creation of this gin involved a collaboration between co-founder Eddie Brook and five of Australia’s leading bartenders, who were winners of the 2023 reGINeration Australian Cocktail Competition.
The bartenders who contributed to this special gin are:
- Andie Bulley, Waratah, Sydney
- Ben McCarthy, High Jinks bar, Canberra
- Greg Hookey, Captain Melville, Melbourne
- Hamish McShane, Moonlight, Byron Bay
- Rumtin Nouzat, Fineprintco-Art Bar, Gold Coast
These bartenders selected ingredients such as quandong, native raspberry, native river mint, rosella, and a touch of salt water, which were sourced from Brookie’s own regenerated rainforest. This initiative aims to raise awareness about the importance of rainforests and to celebrate World Rainforest Day.
Brookie’s commitment to the environment extends beyond the creation of this gin. For every bottle sold, the distillery will plant one rainforest tree, with a goal of planting 1000 trees from the proceeds of this limited-edition release.
Eddie Brook, CEO and Co-Founder of Cape Byron Distillery, shared his excitement about the project: “Brookie’s creates world-class spirits and world-class drink experiences that capture the flavours of our rainforest and region. We have crafted our Brookie’s Rainforest Gin in collaboration with five expert bartenders to make a limited edition dry style of Brookie’s gin with a purpose. Ideal for sipping in a martini or shaken up in a South Side.”
To celebrate the launch, Brookie’s is offering an epic prize that includes the ultimate rainforest experience: a VIP tour with Co-founder Martin Brook, known as the ‘Rainforest Whisperer,’ followed by an indulgent dinner at Crystal Brook Byron’s Forest Restaurant.
The release of this gin also highlights Brookie’s dedication to sustainability and rainforest regeneration. The Brook family has planted over 40,000 rainforest trees on their property and actively supports local rainforest conservation efforts through The Big Scrub Conservancy.
The gin’s packaging, featuring a double-sided label designed by artist Benjamin Ross from Mona Vale, Sydney, reflects the botanicals used and the laid-back Byron lifestyle.
Only 1,000 bottles of Brookie’s Byron Rainforest Gin (700ml, 42% ABV) are available, priced at $82.99 each. To place an order, contact the Cape Byron Distillery team or visit their website at capebyrondistillery.com.
