Where to Find the Best Ice Cream in Regional Victoria

Summer means ice cream. Warm days touring our beautiful regions and feasting at the best country pubs should always end with the crunch of a waffle cone topped with sweet melty goodness.

Here’s your guide to finding the creamiest ice cream and the tangiest sorbet, made with love by local makers and dairy farmers with fresh produce around Victoria.

Ice Cream Co.

Woodend & Gisborne
A visit to Victoria’s Macedon Ranges in the summer months would be incomplete without a cool and creamy pitstop at one of Ice Cream Co.’s delicious outlets, in Woodend and Gisborne.

All ice cream is made on site at the Woodend store, with an incredible range of flavours on offer, including classics like strawberry and chocolate, specials such as whiskey cream and choc-chip cookie dough, and lurid rug rats’ faves like bubblegum and unicorn.

There’s also plenty of tangy sorbets like lemon and passionfruit to select from, with the yuzu-mandarin being the standout. If you don’t feel like a cup or a cone you can collect a custom-made ice cream cake for any occasion, take a tub home for your freezer, or even grab a doggy treat for your hot and bothered pooch. There are also vegan and gluten-free options to keep everyone happy.

Open for scoops all summer long.

Timboon Fine Ice Cream

Timboon
This famous scooperie offers farm-fresh ice cream made with milk from their own dairy. Established by a third-generation dairy farmer, Timboon now has seven popular outlets—most of them peppered along the Great Ocean Road trail in Victoria from Aireys Inlet to Port Fairy, as well as inland stores as far as Dunkeld. You can also get your sticky hands on the stuff in tubs sold at more than 100 stockists around Victoria.

Timboon boasts an output of 80,000 litres churned annually, which may or may not be just enough to satisfy their devoted ice cream fans. Most of their incredible range is gluten-free and allergy-friendly, with both dairy and sorbet options available.

Dogs are not forgotten here, with a special range of ‘Scoopy’s’ ice cream for canines available. You can also become an educated ice cream enthusiast at Sundae School, where keen groups learn everything about the ice cream process, from cow to cone. But the best thing about Timboon is the unlimited tasting samples on offer to passionate punters, so you can try before you buy.
